Alderson boy dies after
falling into
underground tank

Alderson police have reported that a two-year-old boy fell into an underground tank last Tuesday and died. Police have not identified the boy, but have confirmed that he fell into an underground grease basin tank behind the Exxon station in Alderson. The child’s mother had stopped to use the car wash next to the gas station, and while she was washing her car, the boy was playing by the tank.
Police have stated they believe a bag of candy was near the tank. They also said that there is usually a cinder block that covers the hole of the tank, but apparently it had been moved. Officers said they did not think the child could have moved the block.
The investigation is ongoing.
