The Art in the Valley exhibit will open at March’s First Fridays after Five featuring local machined and handmade quilts.

The Greenbrier County Convention & Visitors Bureau (GCCVB) is pleased to announce that quilts from the Alderson Quilters and Crafters Guild will be displayed in the Art in the Valley exhibit during March. The Guild started in 1992 and includes 25 members, many having 20 to 30 years of quilting experience. Members have won awards in Beckley and Charlotte and one was recognized by “Keepsake Quilting,” a national quilting magazine.

The quilt designs will be traditional featuring the double wedding ring, the churn dash and the nine patch, but will also include some modern updates to these beautiful patterns. The displayed quilts are both hand and machine quilted. A highlight of the show will be a past State Fair of West Virginia winner.

The quilters will host their Fourth Annual Quilt Retreat in Alderson, Apr. 30 to May 2, and they invite anyone interested in learning more about quilting to attend. Information about the retreat is available at their website www.min7th.com/aqcg.

The Visitors Center began the Art in the Valley project as a way to provide local artists with an exhibition space. Each month the Visitors Center showcases a different artist or collections of artists. Art in the Valley is free and open to the public.

The opening for the Art in the Valley will be Mar. 6 during March’s First Fridays after Five in downtown Lewisburg. Strum Sum Band will provide musical entertainment.

For more information about the Greenbrier County Visitors Center activities, please contact Kristi Godby, media relations manager, at kgodby@greenbrierwv.com or call 304-645-1000.
