The mission of the Lewisburg Caldwell Fairlea Food Locker, Inc. is to reduce food insecurity in our community. Monthly, on the third Saturday, we deliver food to 160 homes and help another 50-60 families select items in our “pop up store” at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church 644 Church Street in Lewisburg. Our response to emergency food requests throughout the month rounds up the number of people served to about 300 overall.
This mission would be impossible without our 30-40 community volunteers who assist in purchasing, setting up the popup store and delivering to homes and families who walk in. These delivering volunteers come from partner churches. Contributions from churches, individuals, bakers, farmers, gardeners and our local community businesses are critical. We’d like to recognize those who brought fresh vegetables to our neighbors; they include Ben’s Salad Bowl, T.L. Fruits and Vegetables, Jeb Brown & Family, Sunset Berry Farm, Sally & Doug Hurst, Marty Holliday & Family as well as all of the gardeners who contributed.
One of our partnerships is with IGA and manager Matt Cutlip is long-standing and indispensable to our operation. We both benefit from our relationship. His community food drives starting in October–December support all local pantries and lockers. Thanks to our volunteers and other community partners, our mission of nourishing our neighbors is possible. Please reach out and support your local food producers and providers.
