
Clyde “Bud” Hershell Howard, Jr. was taken home to the Lord on Oct. 1, 2026 while surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born Jan. 25, 1941 in Organ Cave, WV. Bud is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Hess Howard, and his father, Clyde Hershell Howard, Sr.
Bud is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Janet, their children, Bruce (Tammy), David (Debbie), and Anita (Bill), his nine grandchildren, Bruce “BJ”, Gentry, Kelsey, Gillian, Madison, Caiden, Ben, David, and Elizabeth, as well as his five great-grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, and his beloved brother, Harold Howard.
Bud worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways, District Nine for over 40 years. As a project supervisor, he helped establish many of the highways in WV. He was most proud of his achievements in the restoration of many of the covered bridges across Greenbrier, Monroe, and Pocahontas counties.
Bud was a devout Christian who knew Jesus Christ as his savior. He was the treasurer for the Lewisburg Baptist Church for 42 years in addition to serving as a deacon. He was integral to the transition from the old Cavalry Baptist Church building to the current Lewisburg Baptist Church location.
Bud loved to garden and maintain the beauty of his lawn and home. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially at Sunday lunch. Bud expressed his artistic side through wood working. He often enjoyed motorcycle rides in his younger years.
Services will be held at Lewisburg Baptist Church, 246 Grand Ave., Lewisburg, WV on Sunday, Oct. 4. Viewing will be at 2 p.m. with service at 3 p.m., immediately followed by graveside service at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens.
