Phillip Henderson Bostic, 85, passed away peacefully on Sept. 21, 2026, at Lewis Gale Hospital surrounded by family. He was born in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., on March 10, 1941. He was the son of the late Joseph Henderson Bostic and Edith Mae Burdette Bostic.
In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by three siblings, Patricia Ann Bostic Baker, Joseph Millard Bostic and Tommy Randolph Bostic.
Phillip H. Bostic’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family, community, and fellow workers. Through military service, professional excellence, union leadership, and family values, he left an indelible mark on his community and the labor movement. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1966 before beginning a nearly 40-year career at The Greenbrier Hotel in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Department.
A lifelong advocate for working people, Phillip joined his local union in 1967 and was honored with a Gold Card in 2017 recognizing 50 years of membership. In 1979, he was elected Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer of the Laborers’ Union Local 1182 at The Greenbrier, a role he held for more than four decades. He continued to serve as Staff Representative for Local 1353.
Throughout his career, he served on numerous boards and councils, including the West Virginia AFL-CIO Advisory Board, the West Virginia Laborers’ District Council, WV United Health System, and the Region 1 Workforce Board. Phillip was recently inducted into the Southwestern District Labor Council, AFL-CIO, Hall of Fame for his outstanding dedication and service. At the time of his passing, he was serving as President of the Southeastern Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
Phillip is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Janice L. Dolan Bostic; three children, Katherine Bostic Slater; Phillip “Wayne” Bostic and companion Geneva Highlander; Peter Bostic and his wife, Kelly Bostic; seven grandchildren, Olivia Slater-Kameya and her husband Martin Kameya, Samuel Slater and his partner Martín Villanueva Luna, Patrick Bostic, Josie Bostic, Mable Bostic, Henderson Bostic and Kara Bostic; one sister, Fredon “Cookie” Williamson; special cousin, Carol Polk; eldest nephew, Johnny Bostic; and Greg Scott. In addition to the list above, there are numerous other surviving nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many friends and loved ones.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Alleghany Regional Hospital and its Hospice Care Team.
The celebration of Phillip’s life will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be a family burial service at a later date.
