During the regular meeting of the Lewisburg City Council on Sept. 15, Mayor Beverly White issued a proclamation declaring Sept. 28-Oct. 3 to be Celebrate Osteopathic Medicine (COM) Week. The proclamation asks community organizations and citizens to support these observances by helping to educate residents about D.O.s and osteopathic medicine.
Mayor White took a moment to acknowledge the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks and expressed her gratitude and concern for all first responders. White noted many of those who responded on 9/11 continue to face issues to this day.
City Manager Misty Hill provided an update on the Green Space renovation. Hill advised the engineering portion of the project is complete and work should commence the week of Sept. 21.
Other matters presented to the council by Hill included a proposed contract for The Mills Group to address revisions of the Historical Landmarks Commission Guidelines; a request for the approval of a contract to renovate the HVAC system of the Greenbrier County Public Library; and a request of funding to repair a sinkhole at the intersection of Court and Foster Streets.
The council approved each measure.
The council briefly discussed the Hallmark Merriest Christmas Contest which will name 25 towns from across the nation Hallmark Christmas Towns. Contest voting closed on Sept. 4 and the winners will be announced on or about Oct. 31.
The council noted this year’s trick or treat will be held on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. The annual Christmas tree lighting will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. and will include hot chocolate and cookies.
