Lewisburg Food Locker fundraiser
Because of inclement weather, the Lewisburg/Fairlea Foodlocker fundraiser scheduled for Feb. 22 has been rescheduled for Sunday, Mar. 8 from 3-7 p.m. at the Irish Pub in Lewisburg. Scout event postponed
Due to recent weather and this weekend’s weather forecast, the Buckskin Council of the Boy Scouts of America “University of Scouting” event at West Virginia State University (WVSU) originally scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, has been postponed until Saturday, Mar. 28.
Clay Center Family Fun Day postponed
Due to the increasing chance of inclement weather, and for the safety of its patrons and presenting partners, the Clay Center has postponed its Discover Engineering Family Fun Day until Saturday, Mar. 7. The event was originally scheduled for Feb. 21.
Forum rescheduled
The Campaign to End Child Poverty: Greenbrier Legislative Forum has been rescheduled Tuesday, Mar. 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Lewisburg City Hall.
Recycling schedule delayed
The City of Lewisburg did not pick up recycling this past week due to weather conditions. Recycling will resume regular schedule the week of Mar. 2-6. The City apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Call Public Works Director Mark Carver at 304-645-1833 with any questions.
AARP Driver Safety Program
On Tuesday, Mar. 3, Shepherd’s Center of the Greenbrier Valley will host an AARP Driver Safety Program from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lewisburg United Methodist Church. Lunch will be served. This eight-hour course is for people over 50 for the purpose of refreshing their driving skills. The course takes into consideration the changes that have taken place in seniors, their vehicles, and the roads since they first learned to drive. West Virginia state law provides for at least a 5 percent reduction in your insurance premiums after completion of this course. There is a minimum of five participants for this class. The cost is $15 for AARP members or $20 for non-members – fee for materials. Troy Holbrook will be the instructor.
AHMH’s Upcoming schedule
Tuesday Jam Sessions at the American Heritage Music Hall (AHMH) at Island Park, 315 Monroe Avenue, Ronceverte, have been moved to every Friday night – Mar. 6, 13, 20, 27 and Apr. 3, 10, 17, 24 – from 7 to 10/10:30 p.m. Doors open at 6, music starts at 7 p.m. Admission: Tuesdays $7 each; dance night $10 each. In February the dance will be held Feb. 28 and will feature the Lilly Mountaineers (from the Beckley area). The dance in March will be held Mar. 28 featuring Bill Evans & The Night Riders. April’s dance will be held Apr. 25 and will feature High Country. Admission includes food, coffee and soft drinks brought in by the audience and donated to the music hall to share with everyone. Caregiver Support Group
is offered the first Tuesday of every month at The Seasons Senior Living Community, 331 Holt Lane, Lewisburg. The next meeting is planned for Mar. 3 at 5 p.m. The group will benefit individuals who provide care to loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia-related diagnoses.
