Our wonderful mother, Nancy Louise McClung, passed away at her home on Orient Hill Tuesday, June 16, 2026, surrounded by love. She was born on Dec. 19, 1938, on Orient Hill, WV, to William Carl “Boss” McClung and Cordia Ann McClung.
Mom spent her younger years as quite the prankster. Whether she was locking Dorothy Gaye in the cellar, taking Shelva’s shoes and placing them on a beehive to delay a date, or teasing her brother Bob by holding his engagement ring over the fire, she was always into something and kept everyone on their toes.
She graduated from Crichton High School – Class of 1956.
Mom was creative, organized, and focused. Whether she was planning an appreciation party for a friend, taking her grandchildren to the park, singing along with Loretta Lynn, or praising Jesus through Southern Gospel music, she gave her whole heart to everything she did. Her curiosity and creative mind led her to many opportunities throughout her life.
In 2000, Mom returned to her roots on Orient Hill. She loved the rolling hills, natural beauty, and peacefulness that only West Virginia can provide. Her endless energy quickly drew her back into community life, where she strengthened family ties and formed lasting friendships. Through community events and church activities, she connected easily with others. Her joyful spirit and positive outlook naturally attracted people to her. Along the way, she met a kindred spirit in James Walkup Sr., who became her best friend and faithful companion for the rest of her days.
This world is less without her in it, but we find comfort in knowing she is walking with the Lord and dancing with the angels.
Nancy is survived by her children, Cheryl Farley, Donald McClung, Darlene (Brian) Pleiman, and Karen (Brian) Charles; grandchildren Amanda Farley, Bobbi Jo McClung, Paige Wright, Blake (Kelly) Charles, Megan (Shane) Pleiman-McGlone, Brent Charles, and Payton Pleiman; great-grandchildren Mary McClung, Bentley Pleiman, Donald McClung, Emmit McGlone, and Millie McGlone; her very special best friend, James Walkup Sr.; as well as many cousins, friends, and members of her church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Carl “Boss” and Cordia Ann McClung; her son, Dale Lee McClung; her brother, Robert McClung; the father of her children, Daris Lee McClung; her son-in-law, John Michael Farley; her daughter-in-law, Mary McClung; and her nephews, Robert Wayne McClung and Curtis Wade McClung.
Service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, June 20, at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Clintonville, with Pastor David Moore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends memorial contributions be made to Orient Hill Baptist Church, 1422 Coalfield Trail, Charmco, WV 25958
