Richard Edward Walker, 71, of Fairlea, WV, gained his heavenly wings and was reunited with the love of his life, Myra Erskine, on May 10, 2026, at his home following a short but hard-fought battle with cancer.

Richard was born on Jan. 19, 1955, in Ronceverte, to the late Charlotte “Sue” Walker Thomas. He was a graduate of Greenbrier East High School. Following graduation, he worked briefly at The Greenbrier Hotel before earning his CDL license. Throughout his career, Richard paved roads for the State of Virginia, drove long-distance trucks, and later retired from the City of Ronceverte, where he faithfully served as Maintenance Supervisor for over a decade.

Known affectionately as “Bug” by his family, Richard may have appeared strict at times, but those who knew him best understood he was deeply loving, caring, and devoted to the people he cherished.

In addition to his mother and fiancée, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney Walker; his grandparents, Richard and Edith Sears Walker; his aunts, Alma and Virginia Walker; his uncles, William, Kyle, Lyle, and Charles Walker; and his close cousins, Pamela Walker-Anglin and George Spotts.

Richard leaves behind to cherish his memory his brother, Eric J. Walker of Ronceverte; nephews, Jason Walker of Lakeland, FL, and Jayvonn Walker of Ronceverte; grandson, Deanté Erskine of Orlando, FL; close cousins, Mike Walker of Lewisburg, Greg Walker of Lexington, KY, Kim Walker of Covington, VA, Cheryl Walker-Bates of White Sulphur Springs, Patrick Walker, Rasman Walker of Lewisburg, Jeanette Walker of Ronceverte, Casey Leonard of Columbus, OH, Tyshaun Walker of Ronceverte, Cecilia Grant of Atlanta, GA, Garrett Wooding of Manassas, VA, De’Shawn Wooding of California, and Matthew Walker of Ronceverte, along with a large host of other beloved cousins and family members. He also leaves behind close friends, Dwain Wilmer and Dale Young.

Richard’s homegoing memorial service will be held on May 30, at 3 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte with Pastor Greg Scott and Overseer Pastor Ivette Wilmer officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the start of services at 2 p.m.

Per Richard’s wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest in his family cemetery. Repass will follow at the Ronceverte Lions Club.
