New River Community and Technical College will offer a short-term Welding Refresher Course this summer for individuals looking to strengthen and update their existing welding skills.
The one-week intensive course will be offered over two consecutive weeks, running Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., July 20 through July 30, at the college’s welding lab on the Greenbrier Valley Campus.
Designed for those with prior welding experience, the Welding Refresher Course provides hands-on instruction and technical review across multiple welding processes. Participants will receive training in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding. Additional topics include machine and equipment setup and maintenance, filler metal and shielding gas selection, base metal preparation and fit-up, and an overview of American Welding Society (AWS) and state weld test certification standards.
Due to the accelerated pace and technical focus, the course is intended for individuals with above-average knowledge of welding processes and is not recommended for beginners.
The cost of the course is $640 per week. Participants may choose to bring their own tools or purchase a welding kit.
This training opportunity is ideal for welders seeking to refresh their skills, prepare for certification testing, or re-enter the workforce with updated competencies.
