George Edward Vance, 80, former resident of Lewisburg, WV and resident of Salem, VA passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous fight against Parkinson’s Disease.

Born on Dec. 29, 1945 in Ronceverte, WV, he is the son of the late Carl Lambert and Anna Macel Vance. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Junior Vance, Philip Vance and three sisters, Mary Bland, Darlene Coffman and Midge Brown.

He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 57 years, Linda Carter Vance. His children: Kevin Vance and Doug Vance both of Salem, VA, and Kathy Talley (Wyatt) of Mechanicsville, VA. His beloved grandsons: Braylen, Tucker and Weston Talley. His Brothers: James “Pretty”, Jerry, and Robert Vance. His Sister: Ramona “Bayo” Graham. And many nieces, nephews and special family friends.

He was a proud US Army Veteran who got so excited to talk about his service with anyone willing to listen. George was a career machinist at Shentool in Salem for many years and could break down and put back together nearly any and every machine. This is why he also would often be found hiding in the garage working on his prized 1929 Model A Ford pickup. NASCAR on Sunday’s was always found on his TV. Some of his favorite family moments were had at Smith Mountain Lake where he vacationed with loved ones every summer for over 45 years. In his later years, joy could be found on his face when educating someone on how to repair an engine part or when one of his grandsons would take the cookie he offered them.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation on May 11, from 12 noon to 1 PM at Morgan Funeral Home, located at 252 Montvue Drive, Lewisburg, WV, 24901. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1 PM, with Pastor Cameron Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Salem Cemetery in Organ Cave, WV.

The family would like to thank his special caregiver Brandy for her care the last 7 months and Good Samaritan Hospice. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research or charity of your choice.
