Frederick Allen “Buck” Vanmeter, 73, of Quinwood, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. Buck was born on Aug. 23, 1952, in Ronceverte, one of the sons of the late Ervin and Bertha Cade Vanmeter.

A hard-working family man, Buck thought the world of his grandchildren and children. Buck took care of everything. Cars had to be maintained and ready to be on the road, safety was on his mind for everyone. He worked for many years for True North Enterprises as a sewing machine mechanic. He also worked for 15 years for the Town of Rainelle.

Buck married his best friend, Norma, and took care of her the absolute best he could. He loved her fiercely. Together through 49 years, they always made sure to give their family the most they could. No love was spared.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Albert, George, Wilbert, Charles, Denver; sisters Piney, Betty, and Louise.

Those left to cherish the love, and memories are his wife, Norma; daughter Donna Martin (Sammy); son Charles (Amber) Vanmeter; brothers Johnny Vanmeter and Hubert Vanmeter; grandchildren Justin (Dena) Martin, Ryan Vanmeter, Alexis Brown; special niece Katie Martin, nephew Robert Myers; and many other nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, Buck will be cremated with a celebration of his life scheduled in the future.

The staff and directors of Smathers Funeral Chapel are honored to have been entrusted to care for Buck and his family during their great time of need. Online condolences may be made at www.smathersfuneralchapelinc.com
