Dorothy Faye O’Brien, 89, of Ronceverte, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Apr. 29, 2026. Born June 28, 1936, in Vago, WV to the late Carl and Hallie Seldomridge Whitt.
Dorothy spent her life as a homemaker, raising her children on a farm in Fort Spring before moving to the town of Ronceverte. She spent most of her time raising a garden. She enjoyed raising a variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. When she wasn’t in the garden, she ensured everyone who entered her home did not leave hungry. She had a love for taking in cats, ensuring all strays were given a home.
She was welcomed in heaven by her husband of 60 years, Charles “Charlie” O’Brien. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her daughter Rita “Susie” Carter, grandson Thomas “Tommy” North, Jr., and granddaughter Katie Arthur.
Those left to cherish her memory include daughters Deborah “Debbie” McClung (Scott), Sandra “Kaye” Lowry (Gary McDaniel), Cheryl “Sherry” North (Gary), Lisa Arthur (Shannon), and son-in-law George Carter. Grandchildren Jamie Wilson (Kendra), Chad Carter, Kevin North, Shelby Adkins (CJ), William “Wesley” Carter, and Kayla Arthur. Great grandchildren McKenzie North, Alston North, Bella North, Mazie Wilson, Mather Wilson, Brooklyn Carter, Parker Adkins, Easton Adkins, and William Carter. Along with two great-great grandchildren Colsen and Lakelynn arriving in 2026.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Welch-Hanger cemetery, Muddy Creek Mountain, Fort Spring, with Reverend Lowell O’Dell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Greenbrier Humane Society (151 Holliday Lane, Lewisburg, WV 24901).
