It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother Marty Smith, who left us peacefully at Peyton Hospice House after a long illness on Apr. 13, 2026 at the age of 76.
Marty was born Dec. 2, 1949 in West Palm Beach, FL. Before moving to West Virginia, he and his family lived in Alaska and was there when it became a state. They moved back to Florida and he graduated from Fletcher Academy in Fletcher, NC. He helped run the family country store until the summer of 1975 when they moved to Renick’s Valley. Greenbrier County. There they owned a farm on Old Brownstown Road. Marty became an EMT and volunteer for Renick. He worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways for 33 years, where he retired in 2011.
Marty was a source of laughter, great cooking and unwavering support for his community. He served on the board of the United Way. He was instrumental in bringing the outdoor drama, Riders of the Flood to Ronceverte. He served as the President of the River Festival for many years. He was an active member of the Ronceverte Lions Club and various others.
Marty is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Melinda Smith of Stuart, FL, nephews and nieces, Mark Smith, Heather Smith, Robbie Smith and Catherine Siegel; great-niece and nephews; Jacob and Taylor Smith and Robert Siegel and many cousins. Marty had a large extended family and friends and will be missed by all.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort that Marty is no longer in pain and headed to a better place…
