Percy “Perk” William Berry, Jr. passed away peacefully on Mar. 7, 2026 at Friendship South Health and Rehab in Roanoke, VA following an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease. Perk was a lifelong resident of White Sulphur Springs until health issues made it necessary for him to move to Virginia in 2022.

Perk was born on Mar. 12, 1942 in White Sulphur Springs, WV. He is proceeded in death by his parents Percy William Berry, Sr. and Ruth Bowyer Berry. He was a long time member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and graduated from White Sulphur Springs High School in 1960.

Perk met the love of his life in 1963, Sue Ann “Sammy” Morgan. Perk and Sammy celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Dec. 21, 2025.

Perk was an employee of The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs for over 25 years. He began his career at The Greenbrier as a waiter in The Old White Club and retired following several years as Maitre’d in the Main Dining Room.

After his retirement from The Greenbrier Food and Beverage Department, Perk drove The Greenbrier tractor trailer truck. He was so proud to drive the truck with the beautiful Greenbrier logo and iconic Springhouse on the side of the truck. He gave each of his grandsons a toy replica of the beautiful truck.

Perk also drove a dump truck for several years for Lynch Construction where he was given the CB handle Super Dog. Perk loved his time working with his much loved Lynch cousins.

Perk was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He served several terms as Grand Knight of the Alleghany Highlands Council Knights of Columbus. He was highly active in the Knights of Columbus, especially with the Lenten Friday Fish Dinners. He was so happy that proceeds from the fish fries were used to buy new winter coats for Greenbrier Valley school children.

Surviving Perk are his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Sue Ann “Sammy” Berry, sister Jane Ann “Janie” Harris, daughters Christy Lee Parker (Thomas), Kimberly Ann Larochelle (Kevin), and Leann Michelle Herman (Josh), niece Summer Ann Harris, grandchildren Joseph Percy Riggleman (Keri), Nicholas William Larochelle, Matthew Berry Larochelle, Morgan Lowell Herman and Christina Nichole Parker, great grandchildren Leah Nichole Herring and Zoey Winnifred Herring, and his much beloved cat, Smokey.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Friendship South in Roanoke, VA. They took amazing care of Perk this past year and loved him dearly.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Mass for Perk will be held on Saturday, Mar. 14, at 11 a.m. at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Visitation will be at the Church from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be held in Mount Loretto Cemetery at the church following the Mass.

All are invited to visit with the family at a reception in the Saint Charles Parish Hall, immediately following the graveside service.

Members of the Greenbrier Valley Knights of Columbus and the Beckley Fourth Degree Assembly will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Information on donating to the foundation can be found on their website, www.parkinsons.org. Memorial donations can also be made to the Greenbrier Valley Knights of Columbus Coats for Greenbrier Valley Schools fundraiser by mailing checks to the Greenbrier Valley Knights of Columbus, P.O.
