Joyce Ann Smithson, 83, of Alderson, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, at the Woodlands Health and Rehab Center in Clifton Forge, VA. She was born on May 11, 1942, in Alderson to the late Dallas Lynn and Lena Mable (Deal) Smithson.
Joyce graduated from Alderson High School in 1961, later joining City National Bank where she dedicated 31 years before retiring with pride. She was a active member of the Flat Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. Joyce loved bird watching, gardening, tending to her flowers, traveling to the beach, and watching westerns. Above all, Joyce cherished time spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Feamster Waugh and her husband John of Covington, VA; her son, Richard Kyle Feamster, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Gloucester, VA; her granddaughters, Kimberly Gadlage and her husband Anthony of Denver, CO; Johnna Waugh of Clifton Forge, VA; three great-granddaughters, Norah and Hazel Berberette of Clifton Forge, VA, and Genevieve Gadlage of Denver, CO; her aunt, Nadine Phillips of Delaware; her sister-in-law, Jenelle Smithson of Madison, VA; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her lifelong companion, Richard Kyle Feamster, as well as her brother, Dallas Lynn Smithson, Jr.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel in Alderson, WV, with Pastor Randy Burdette officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis Cemetery at Blaker Mills, near Alderson, WV. Friends may call Saturday, Feb. 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
