Over the weekend, 3,207 pets from 112 shelters across the U.S. found loving, forever homes during Empty the Shelters (ETS), a free adoption event sponsored and organized by BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF).
The nonprofit based in Grand Rapids, MI, covered all adoption fees at participating animal welfare organizations, allowing adopters to bring home a family pet at no cost. Each pet adopted from a shelter creates space for another homeless pet to be taken in, resulting in 6,414 lives saved by (ETS). BPF thanks BISSELL for generous financial support which made this event possible. When you purchase a BISSELL pet product, up to $10 is donated to BISSELL Pet Foundation to help save the life of a pet.

May 5 was BPF’s first nationwide, free adoption day and included organizations from 13 states. Shelters and rescues taking part in ETS were required to follow their standard adoption requirements to ensure pets go to the right homes. BISSELL Pet Foundation has helped find homes for more than 13,000 pets since beginning the Empty the Shelters initiative in May 2016.
“We are overjoyed knowing thousands of pets have found wonderful homes,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of BPF. “We are hearing heartwarming stories from adopters about their love for their new pets. This success validates the need for BPF to continue Empty the Shelters.”
