Lewisburg Mayor Beverly White, City Manager Misty Hill, and Public Works Director Tony Legg gathered at the new site of the Lewisburg dog park this week to discuss the plans for the redevelopment of Dorie Miller Park. Tucked away behind the old Lewisburg Public Works buildings on Feamster Road, just adjacent to the ball fields of Dorie Miller, is the space for the upcoming Lewisburg dog park.
The dog park will boast roughly 1,200 square feet of total gated area for dogs to run and play, split into two sides to keep large dogs and smaller dogs separated. The City will also install a two-sided water fountain that is pup-height to give both the large and small dogs a refreshment station. Four benches with sunshades will also be installed, two on each side, complete with pawprint cutouts to match the doggie theme of the area.
The spot currently has a slope up towards the treeline at the edge of the property, but the City will be leveling it out over the winter (when they have the time between decorating for the holidays) and then installing the fencing before springtime.
“This is just the first phase of all of the projects we have planned for Dorie Miller Park,” explained City Manager Hill. “In the future, we hope to install a pump track, and hope to eventually build a community center.”
In recent years, Dorie Miller Park has gained a new picnic shelter and upgraded playground equipment, and as the Public Works Department continues to phase their operations down to their new headquarters in Caldwell next to the municipal water plant, the park will be expanded for public use.
A rendering of the park, released in 2022 and designed by Trail Solutions IMBA, shows the dog park, new open space where the Public Works buildings are, a paved pump track and bike skills trails, a bike skill zone, a tot track and shelter, new restrooms, and more.
Stay tuned for an official opening date, anticipated to be announced this spring.
