For more than ten years, it has become part of the holiday tradition for many to enjoy afternoon tea in Alderson. The Christmas Tea is a significant fund raiser for Alderson Main Street and helps support the many activities AMS sponsors throughout the year, particularly the “Gem of the Hills” Holiday celebration. This year the tea will be held at the home of Doris Kasley on Sunday, Dec. 14 with seatings at 1 and 3 p.m. The address is 118 Wilson Street.
Past guests will remember Doris’ warm hospitality when she hosted the tea at her Bed and Breakfast Inn. Guests can imagine how special it will be to have tea in her home surrounded by the long history of her family in Alderson. Guests will be seated at tables throughout the house and Leah and Roger Trent will add their beautiful seasonal music to the occasion.
A special feature this year will be the elegant dress of the greeters and the smart attire of the wait staff and kitchen help. It is rumored that French, the Alderson Lion, may make an appearance since he is fond of cookies. AMS member Meg Chamberlain is extremely skilled at costume design and creation and has helped with this effort.
There are two seatings at 1 and 3 p.m., and tickets are limited. Guests must purchase non-refundable tickets in advance for $25 each at the Alderson Artisan’s Gallery (304-445-7952) by cash, check, or credit card.
Alderson Main Street Treasurer Margaret Hambrick said, “This is a very special tradition in Alderson. Groups of friends, including men and boys, plan on attending each year and generations of women and girls feel very special in their Sunday best as they sip their tea and eat the tiny sandwiches, scones, and sweets.”
