On Wednesday evening, over 70 women gathered at Harmony Ridge Gallery in downtown Lewisburg to raise funds for local projects. Titled the Power of the Purse, and facilitated by the United Way of the Greenbrier Valley, the event offered women the opportunity to visit with each other while deciding how to spend the funds raised at the event. To sweeten the pot, many women went home with a new handbag. Purses were generously donated by area businesses and individuals. With more than $4,000 raised in just two hours, three projects that benefit children will be funded: Snacks in Packs, Books in Bags, and a vegetable garden to be built for the Children’s Home Society.
