In observance of Columbus Day, Oct. 12, and the Monday holiday observance Oct. 13, the Alleghany Highlands Council 8689 Knights of Columbus placed the American flags on the K of C sign at each entrance to White Sulphur Springs. Kindergartner grand prize winner for largest sunflower entered in the Lewisburg elementary school sunflower contest was Kiana Mcclung in Mrs. Tipton’s class with a 54” entry. She is congratulated by Townley Hamilton, conservation chairman for the Lewisburg House and Garden Club that sponsors the annual contest, and presented her with a book on resident birds of West Virginia and a $25 check for her achievement.
