Save a lot on your grocery bill with Save-A-Lot

By Stacy Glick

Open since January of 1996, the Save-A-Lot grocery store, in the Greenbrier Valley Mall, offers groceries at a discounted price. "This is a non-conventional grocery. It gives the area a different choice." commented Truman Shrewsberry, manager of the Lewisburg store.

Shrewsberry has worked in the retail grocery business for 28 years, ten of which have been spent as Save-A-Lot. Owned by John Fitzwater and Don Tate of Fast Check, in Charleston, WV, Save-A-Lot was opened to give Greenbrier Valley grocery customers a different kind of store.

Save-A-Lot can offer customers discount prices for a variety of reasons. They handle private label brands, including Save-A-Lot milk and Wilwood Vegetables. Buying in bulk, and saving on labor costs by leaving the product in boxes, also helps to provide a cheaper shopping experience. By being open a limited number of hours, Save-A-Lot avoids paying to keep the store open when customers are not shopping as heavily. Though designed initially for customers with an annual income of $25,000 or lower, Save-A-Lot provides quality products at low prices for customers from all income levels. Experience the feeling of a lower grocery bill for yourself Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For additional information, call 645-7994.

Cranberry Station in Beckley

Cranberry Station in Beckley is more than just a store; it is a tourist (or local resident) destination. The family owned business opened in October 2003 and will soon celebrate its 4th anniversary. The store is open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is managed by sisters-in-law Donna Constantino and Christy Atha.

Many visitors spend two or three hours browsing through the 70+ vendor spaces which boast a variety of hundreds of beautiful items. You might encounter a vignette featuring hand painted accent pieces, wall and floor clocks, lamps and tables in a contemporary style then see the same items in primitive décor.

There is approximately 5,000 square feet of many one-of-a-kind items. Although most items are manufactured you will enjoy fantastic local photography, hand made wreaths, swags and table arrangements. One of the tourist’s favorite spots in Cranberry Station is Apeeling Creations, a delicious booth of gourmet caramel and chocolate apples and pretzels, plus a special new item, Mallow Pups!

On your visit to Cranberry Station don’t forget to check out such brand names as Quacker Factory, Birkenstock, CitiKnits, Susan Graver and Diamonique.

If you haven’t experienced Cranberry Station it is worth a drive to Beckley or a detour off I-64 at Eisenhower Drive.

Welcome to Greenbrier Chiropractic Center

Created by Dr. Timothy Pence and Elizabeth Destiny in 1996, Greenbrier Chiropractic Center has grown to become a well-established family health care center serving the Greenbrier Valley.

Dr. Pence provides traditional chiropractic care rooted in its vitalistic philosophy, "Our primary purpose as chiropractors is to remove or reduce the interference to healing that occurs when spinal and related structures are displaced or become dysfunctional."

Dr. Pence was born and raised in the Greenbrier Valley and received his undergraduate degree in biology at Marshall University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Life University near Atlanta, Georgia, with a dual degree in Doctor of Chiropractic and a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition. Additionally, he has obtained certification in physiological therapeutics and clinical acupuncture.

"After sixteen years of practicing chiropractic, I’ve definitely learned that you cannot serve the public well without a top-notched team." A caring staff is most important. "Patients don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care." Team members include the front desk receptionist and insurance specialist Peggy Orndorff. The chiropractic assistant/office integrator is Diane O’Dell. Part time help provided by mother Margery Pence completes this well selected staff.

Although health care is a serious business, there is an atmosphere of joy and fun in the practice. "Laughter is commonplace in our clinic and has a powerful, therapeutic value", says Dr. Pence.

Services at Greenbrier Chiropractic Center include specific, low force instrument adjustments as well as traditional spinal manipulation. Physiotherapy including neuromuscular techniques, therapeutic exercise, rehabilitation, low level laser, auriculotherapy, and electric stimulation are also utilized. Additionally, acupuncture and nutritional counseling are available as well as nutritional and orthotic products.

The goal at Greenbrier Chiropractic Center is to assist individuals and their families in their own health related goals, whether that is pain relief, restoring function, maintaining wellness, or reaching their full health potentials.
